AN alternative route to Sungai Linggi has been identified at the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) fishermen's jetty in Kampung Paya Lebar, Lubok China, near here.
Negeri Sembilan Tourism Malaysia director Zaidi Kassim said the route was more challenging as it passed through a 1.5 kilometre canal in Sungai Ramuan China Besar before heading to Sungai Rembau and Sungai Linggi.
"Traversing this route in motorised boats will give visitors a new experience as mangrove forest, nipah palms and nibong trees line either side of the narrow Sungai Ramuan China Besar," said Zaidi who joined an expedition on the new route to Sungai Linggi recently.
The expedition was organised by the Negeri Sembilan Tourism Malaysian and travel agency, MHMT Tours & Travel Sdn Bhd.
He said the three routes to Sungai Linggi were Tanjung Agas and Pengkalan Kempas in Port Dickson, as well as Sungai Timun in Rembau.
He said discovery of this new route gave an alternative to tourists and anglers heading to Sungai Linggi.
On the expedition, Zaidi said it was a smart cooperation between the Negeri Sembilan Tourism Malaysia and the travel agency to give exposure on the new route in efforts to attract tourists and anglers to Sungai Linggi.
He said the river, which was home to a variety of fish species and a haven for lobsters, had the potential to become a major tourist destination in the state.
Not only does it have historical value, but is also rich in flora and fauna, he added.
Sungai Linggi borders Negeri Sembilan and Melaka which starts where Sungai Rembau and Sungai Linggi meet. -Bernama
